The Group
The Enterprise Data Platform group is the central nervous system of consolidating, normalizing, calculating and distributing Morningstar’s high-quality data and capabilities around that data for internal and external consumers. The Role
In this role, you will participate in the analysis of new feature/content requests and help multifunctional development teams to understand WHAT needs to be done to meet internal and external user’s needs through Morningstar’s next-generation enterprise data platform. You will be responsible for researching functional and nonfunctional requirements, providing user stories and acceptance criteria for development teams, and providing test strategy and test cases for QA teams. The ideal candidate will have a passion for data and technology, operating in Public Cloud platform. Also, candidate should demonstrate excellent problem solving, communication and a good understanding of financial investment data. This role will be based in our Toronto office.
Job Responsibilities:
  • Communicate with internal and external clients to understand and clarify business, technology, operations, and data requirements.
  • Convert business requirements into actionable stories through detailed analysis such as calculation prototyping, usage analysis, and data mapping/mining/locating in various data sources.
  • Write user stories, acceptance criteria for functional and nonfunctional requirements and explain details to Development, Operations and Quality Assurance (QA) teams.
  • Collaborate with product and project management, technology leadership, developer, and QA to deliver the project according to requirements.
Qualifications:
  • 1+ years’ experience in business analysis or data analysis.
  • 1+ years’ experience with financial software and/or data.
  • Possess a bachelor’s degree in Finance or Engineering related area of study, or direct experience within financial or data management industry. Advanced knowledge of Portfolio Management, Company, Mutual Fund, Fixed Income and Reference data is ideal.
  • Self-motivated, excellent work ethic, strong interpersonal and communication skills, ability to work in a team environment.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to learn quickly and work independently.
  • Basic knowledge of SQL, Python, Jupyter Notebooks, and/or Amazon Web Service is preferable.
Nice to have:
  • CFA charter holder or CFA candidate is a plus.
  • Morningstar product knowledge is a plus.
